Blood transfusion is one of the most essential and life-saving medical interventions in modern healthcare. It involves the safe transfer of whole blood or blood components—including red blood cells, platelets, plasma, and cryoprecipitate—from a healthy donor to a patient in need. Blood transfusion plays a vital role in the management of trauma, major surgical procedures, obstetric emergencies, severe anemia, hematological disorders, cancer treatment, and various critical care conditions. The Department of Transfusion Medicine ensures that every unit of blood is collected, tested, processed, stored, and transfused following strict national and international quality standards, thereby maximizing patient safety and clinical outcomes.
